Why does RunPod ask for KYC before a crypto payment?
RunPod's docs state the rule but not the reason. The KYC note sits next to crypto only: card payments go through Stripe and carry no such step. According to GPUwithCrypto's check of 29 October 2026, 14 of 33 GPU clouds accept crypto. RunPod is the only one of the 14 whose docs tie KYC to a crypto payment. Business customers spending more than $5,000 can also be invoiced by ACH, wire or card through RunPod's sales team.
In practice, paying RunPod in crypto means an identity check first, then a top-up you cannot get back. Plan the first deposit around the job you have.
How much does RunPod cost compared with GPUwithCrypto?
RunPod lists two prices per GPU: Secure Cloud and Community Cloud. Community Cloud runs on community-hosted machines; RunPod does not describe it as interruptible spot. GPUwithCrypto prices are on-demand, per GPU-hour, paid in crypto.
| GPU | RunPod Secure Cloud | RunPod Community Cloud | GPUwithCrypto |
|---|---|---|---|
| H100 80GB | $2.89 (PCIe), $3.99 (SXM) | $1.99 (PCIe), $2.69 (SXM) | $2.32/hour |

USD per GPU-hour, from runpod.io/pricing (page header "Updated October 8, 2026"), read on 29 October 2026. RunPod bills per second.
On 29 October 2026, GPUwithCrypto was cheaper than RunPod Secure Cloud for all seven GPUs. RunPod Community Cloud was cheaper than GPUwithCrypto for the H100 PCIe and the L40S, and dearer for the other five. RunPod also lists GPU types that GPUwithCrypto does not rent, such as the L4, L40 and RTX A6000.
What else should I know before paying RunPod in crypto?
Four more rules from RunPod's own pages:
- Spend limit: new accounts have a default limit of $80 per hour across all resources, raised over time or through support.
- Countries: its Terms (section 6) name Cuba, Iran, North Korea and Syria as embargoed.
- Billing: pods are billed per second, and storage is extra: container disk $0.10 per GB per month, volume disk $0.20 per GB per month while idle.
- Regions: its pricing page lists 30+ regions.
RunPod's strengths are real: per-second billing, a $10 start, and on-demand prices for all seven GPUs we track, which none of the other 13 crypto-accepting clouds in our check listed on 29 October 2026.
Which GPU clouds take crypto without asking for ID?
Several, according to their own pages on 29 October 2026. "No ID step documented" means the pages we read describe none, not a promise that they never ask.
- GPUwithCrypto: BTC, USDT, USDC, ETH, SOL, LTC, no ID, no card. H100 $2.32/hour, on-demand only, billed per minute.
- Massed Compute: Bitcoin by wallet invoice, email verification only. H100 80GB $2.73 on-demand, but no auto-recharge for crypto.
- Vast.ai: BitPay and Crypto.com, no ID document in its docs. Its billing FAQ asks for a verified card and email before credit is added, and crypto credits are not refunded. Details on the Vast.ai crypto page.
- Salad: USDC, USDT and RENDER on Solana, for RTX 4090 and RTX 5090. Crypto payments cannot be refunded.
- Spheron: USDC on six chains, from a $50 crypto deposit.
- Vultr: nine coins through BitPay, for L40S and A100 plans.
